2016-09-19Miley Cyrus Performs "Baby, I'm in the Mood for You" and Plays Phone Booth With Jimmy Fallon
On Friday night’s (Sept. 16) Tonight Show, special guest Miley Cyrus played a game of Phone Booth with Jimmy Fallon and performed a stunning rendition of Odetta’s 1965 Bob Dylan cover “Baby, I’m in the Mood for You” with The Roots. She also chatted with Fallon about her gig on The Voice, starring alongside Woody Allen in his upcoming Amazon series Crisis in Six Scenes, Ashtanga yoga moves and the Happy Hippie Foundation, her non-profit organization. Speaking with Fallon, Cyrus said that it was Pharrell (who loved his experience coaching on The Voice) that convinced her to join the show as a coach this season. “He's like me - wouldn't say it if he didn't mean it,” she said, adding that he explained to her: “You're gonna really not be told by the producers and the directors what to do. None of that.” “There's nothing about it that is fake,” Cyrus told Fallon. In the pair’s Phone Booth segment (a trivia game in which a mystery guest was shoved into a phone booth with either Cyrus or Fallon after each incorrect answer) the singer found herself in close quarters with an insect expert and his tarantula, as well as a guy with a national award-winning beard. Watch her perform “Baby, I’m in the Mood for You” with the Roots and check out her game of Phone Booth with Fallon.

2016-08-01Prince's Family Announce Date for Official Tribute Concert
Prince's family says an official tribute concert honoring the late icon will take place in October in the singer's hometown of Minneapolis. In a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday, Prince's family said the concert will be held on Oct. 13 at the U.S. Bank Stadium. Performers will soon be announced on a rolling basis. Tickets will go on sale next month. Prince died April 21 of a drug overdose. The Purple One's brothers and sisters said in a joint statement that they "have been moved by the tremendous love and support of Prince's friends and fans around the world." "We are excited for the opportunity to bring everyone together for the official family celebration of Prince's life, music and legacy, and there is no better place to do it than his hometown of Minneapolis," the statement read. "We are honored by the artists who will pay tribute and grateful to those that have worked so hard to make this celebration possible." Since Prince's death, countless performers have paid tribute to the entertainer. Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks have covered his songs during their live shows, and Madonna sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Purple Rain" — with the help of Stevie Wonder — at the Billboard Music Awards in May. BET dedicated much of its awards show last month to Prince with performances from Sheila E., The Roots, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, Maxwell, Bilal, Tori Kelly, Wonder and Prince's ex-wife, Mayte Garcia.

2010-07-02Winehouse to front supergroup
Amy Winehouse is forming a new supergroup with The Roots' drummer - Uestlove. "The Rehab" hitmaker is planning to make music with the hip-hop musician, along with producer Raphael Saadiq, who will be on guitar, according to ?uestlove, real name Ahmir Thompson. But Winehouse has so far been unable to move the plans forward - because she is struggling to obtain a visa to enter America to visit the record producer. The singer was previously denied entry to the U.S. for the 2008 Grammy Awards after she was arrested in October, 2007 when she was caught in possession of seven grammes of marijuana in Norway. But Thompson is adamant the band will soon begin work on new music: "The group will definitely happen. It's just the closest she can come to the States is Jamaica. I'm off to France soon so I'll see if she's up for discussing it over dinner. We're Skyping the s**t out of each other."
